We work at services such as Canberra Rape Crisis Centre, Canberra Community Law, Women’s Health matters, Mental Health Community Coalition and Women’s Legal Service.

We currently receive no funding for paid parental leave by the ACT Government, our main funding body.

Rest assured though, ASU members have a plan to close the gender pay gap in Canberra’s community sector and retain professional and passionate workers in these vital services.

We have launched a case in the Fair Work Commission, but we need the ACT Government to come to the table and support the funding of a parental leave entitlement for MEA workers. It’s time to move towards parity with the public sector and close the gender pay gap in Canberra’s community sector by supporting our claim for paid parental leave.

I am writing to you today to encourage you to support paid parental leave for the ACT Community Sector Multi-Employer Agreement (MEA).
We acknowledge ACT Labor’s strong commitment to social justice and gender equity, and your election platform commitment to closing the gender pay gap between the community and public sectors in Canberra
We urge you to support the funding of paid parental leave as proposed by the ASU in the Community Sector Multi-Employer Agreement (MEA) negotiations at the Fair Work Commission.
It’s time for Canberra to make history. This will be the first time a state or territory Government has engaged in a Multi-Employer Supported Bargaining process in the Fair Work Commission for territory funded services in the community. 
Please help us make history and be the first Government to support paid parental leave parity with public sector workers. 
We know this measure will retain professional and passionate workers in these vital local services and it will contribute to continuing to close the gender pay gap in Canberra.
These workers work every day to support Canberra’s most vulnerable and today we are asking you to support them!
